I spent the past few hours following along to a course on Lynda that discussed how to design an random map generator with auto tiling. Overall the course was fairly simple and only uses 4 bit tile bitmask, but it certainly helped to clear the air about tile bitmasks in general as I had been reading up on them the other day and couldn’t quite wrap my head around the concept.
